When i do a gpupdate /force on a workstation - does the policies get coped to worksta

Hi Guys

 

We have windows 2012 Domain controller and Windows 7 workstations on our network.

 

After I join a PC-1, from work group to a domain, it goes automatically to the default Computer OU.

We have separate workstation OU for the Staff and Students. For example when I move the PC-1 to a Staff workstation OU and do a gpupdate /force . Do the group policy applied on the Staff Workstation OU - gets copied the PC-1 ?

 

Please let me know as how this works.

Once you move a computer to a different OU and on that computer run the command gpupdate /Force, it will start to apply the policies that are associated with the new location and certain registry and file settings are updated. Note: You may have to reboot the machine for some of these policies to take effect though.

If you want the computers to get the correct policies when they join the address prestige them in active directory

Create the computer account in AD first and then join it to the domain.

 

Will then go into the correct OU straight away and got get any rogue GPOs

In answer to your question, yes I believe that when you run gpupdate/force the policies will be downloaded/cached on that PC.

all policies will be downloaded but if you want a certificate (for wireless) etc you will need to do a certutil -pulse.
