Converting Mid 2011 iMac to SSD HDD

I was going to suggest one of those, but then I found out the optical drive SATA port only runs at 3 Gb/s in the 2011 iMacs so didn't bother. :)

If you went with that option, would you then not need to replace the HDD, but rather put an SSD into this caddy and install the OS onto this?

Guessing its going to be the same for the mid 2010's 21.5's

Is there away if not having to replace the temp sensor as well?

Mid 2010s are 3Gbps across the board. 6Gbps got introduced at the chipset level with Sandy Bridge iirc and 2010s are Nehalem.

Hi all, I was the OP for this thread. Just wanted to say a big thanks for the help on this. This was my first day off, so took one home and converted it in around 30 minutes. It was a doddle.

I am having some issues with the OS but will post a new thread for that in the Apple section.

Now I know how quick and easy it is, I will do all of ours back at work, and hopefully extend the life on ours by a few extra years!

Thanks again and Happy Christmas!!
