Adobe Pricing - How much? Rough Guide

We're still running CS5 and have no intention of upgrading until Adobe can un-Appleify itself.

 

Indeed - we still run CS4 from '08 as we weren't lucky enough to secure upgrade funding for CS5/6 prior to the change from Adobe. We have this year gone with Serif instead, which whilst not the first choice as an overall package, is perhaps more suited for certain tasks due to their slightly easier interface.

 

The new Adobe licencing model is frankly ridiculously expensive and we have no intention of going anywhere near it. CS4 is buggy now, and no doubt will be moroso when we go to Win10 and beyond, so we are just keeping it on life support as long as possible, whilst transitioning gradually to Serif.

We're fortunate here that we managed to obtain a site license of CS6 just before they pulled it and forced CC onto everyone. It's only the Web and Design edition, so excludes Premiere (which we find too complicated for a secondary school anyway) - prior to this we did have CS4 Master site license (well, I guess we still have it). But agreed, can't see an upgrade path for us with this product for the foreseeable future. It's real shame when you see the likes of Autodesk giving away their catalogue free of charge to educational establishments (including fantastic products like 3D Studio Max, Maya, AutoCAD, etc) - the Gauntlet should be thrown down to Adobe to do something similar. After all, it's the hook that these companies want, getting students using their products early and they'll want to keep using it in industry (and will demand they have access to it in the real world).

 

We moved over to Sony Movie Studio a few years back as the educational site license for that was insanely cheap for what is a fantastic product, however, this got pulled as well and Sony sold Movie Studio to another software company which has recently been updated to version 14, which, I actually own myself for home use as it's pretty good.

Adobe's EDU pricing is crazy. Back in 2014-2015 we we paying £3,300 each year and now it's ~£8,600.

 

 

We pay £20.29 through Phoenix.

 

Just spoke to XMA who are verbally saying £30 per seat - just waiting for email quotes to see what it's based on!

 

Quote arrived at £21.80 for 250 seats (per annum) so back in line with above.

Quite how much do you expect to pay for every Adobe application....?

 

£5-8.50 per student per year would be find and in line with pricing over the last 15 years.

 

Or with £35 per FTE with students rights on institution owned devices.

 

The pricing increase does give creative cloud storage and better student rights, but I can't offset the costs against potential savings on the refresh of the on premises SAN for several years yet, and so the sums don't come close to balancing.

£21 for the full suite isn't that bad but we were recently told by Adobe that since we are now classed as FE (rather than sixth form college) that the £21.80 is now £149. At that point we started reinstalling CS5..
