The Group policy Client service failed the login. Access is denied

Hiya All,

We are getting this problem more and more. I seem to be deleting at least 1 profile a day (bearing in mind we only have a user base of around 110 students and 140 staff) from the server and letting it re-create due to "The Group policy Client service failed the login. Access is denied" coming up for our domain users.

We have roaming profiles for Staff and Mandatory for Students.

Profiles automatically get deleted every time the computer restarts so its nice and fresh for next time straight from the server but we still seem to be getting this very annoying issue, does anyone have any hints and tips on managing this apart from changing to mandatory?

Thanks,

i too have been struggling with this for over 6 months. It appears to be random. Have you gotten closer to a solution ?

I think i started noticing it after deploying W10-1703. It also occurs on W10-1709

Anyone else having this exact gp svc error on random computers for random users ?

workarounds:

-delete affected user profile

-disable fastboot by GPO or just reboot the device (shutdown & powerON results in error, with reboot user can log in without problem)

How are the profiles deleted?

On a PC that this is happening log onto the PC as a local admin and check/delete the profile via regedit of a user that gets the error message. Search in regedit for ProfileList, find the user and then delete the user from the registry.

Going forward I'd steer clear of Roaming Profiles. Mandatory profiles are OK though or use App redirection instead

Have ended up gradually changing affected staff members to Mandatory profiles however we will also be migrating to Windows 10 soon anyway.

Profiles are deleted using a script with delprof upon shutdown, have moved affected staff to mandatory profiles however migrating to Windows 10 soon.

Have started to notice this also with roaming profiles. We also use a Delprof Script to delete profiles when a PC is shutdown. We have removed several PC's away from the script and this appears to resolve the issue. I am wondering if this is a problem with Delprof even though roaming profiles are a pain.

Luckily ours is stabilising now due to moving a majority over to mandatory, I have found this quite painless due to the only thing a profile would of normally saved was bookmarks in Chrome (that staff would notice) but I have now redirected this pretty much making roaming profiles obsolete in our environment.

We do however have to start again now figuring out what route to take for Windows 10 profiles, most likely local due to this is most peoples recommendation.
