DCUK6 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) Hi All, Having a issue with our iBoards, whenever the user locks their screen after a bit of time we return to the board and its off. At first i thought it may be little hands touching buttons but weve checked the cameras and its not. Ive checked the windows logs and cant find anything, the machine does a full startup when you turn it back on. Checked the GPO for power settings and turned it to never do anything. Spoken with the 'wonderful' iboard support and they cant think of anything. Anyone think of places to check? Next step is to lock the screen and sit there waiting 30 mins watching it. Ertech Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) I have the same problem with Windows 7 and the support team suggested re-installing the OS again... Edited September 28, 2017 by Ertech
DCUK6 Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) Wonderfull isnt it. You been told to download some generic driver program to update drivers? Make sure you untick all the boxes so it doesnt flood your system with unwanted things i got told. Happening on all of our boards. - - - Updated - - - Model LTE55-003V+ Edited September 28, 2017 by DCUK6
Ertech Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 They have tested their own device and confirmed that they did not experience the same issue so what I have done is asked them to send that OPC module unit to try out... I have the i43 which I believe it is to do with the screen firmware rather the PC/OS....
DCUK6 Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 So your still going through support. Have you tried to sit there or record it happening?
Ertech Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 I have actually personally experienced the problem while trying install the updates - it was a stand alone at the time
DCUK6 Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 Did the board just turn off and power switch go red? Just had the same response. Not a board thing its a software thing. Then the case was closed. Just replied along the lines of, Have spoken to another school with the same issue. They are running a different Windows version and experiencing the same issues. To happen at 2 different schools with no connections seems to point to the only common thing, the board or the pc unit.
Michael Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 It is very easy to set Power Options via GPP (rather than manually), which should resolve any power related issues. The other possibility is the USB ports themselves sleeping, rather than than the whole system going into Standby mode.
DCUK6 Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 Have tried both manual and GPO/GPP policies. They seem to stay alive forever when logged in, its only when locked weve found. Windows logs doesnt log any shutdown events, it just reports the improper shutdown when you turn it on next. When it happens you return and the board is turned off (red power light) Have tried manually putting it to sleep and it returns fine.
Michael Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 I don't have one of these boards, but as an outsider what's the common thing - The PCs will be different, as will the OS and patches, so chances are it's a board or controller firmware as speculated; unless it's something that can be fixed within the application (on the PC), powering the board.
DCUK6 Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 Yep, thats my conclusion and why i love places like Edugeek. It gives you the info you need to say that to these companies. Its if they choose to listen though isnt it. Thats going to be our problem.
Ertech Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 If you find a solution please keep me posted - I will let you know what happens from my end.. DCUK6 Posted February 26, 2018 Author Posted February 26, 2018 (edited) Nope, iBoard are taking no responsibility. Just say its software thats installed on it. Ive spoken to 4 schools now and said to iboard about how 4 school, windows 7-10, different domains, different LEA all suffer aand they still wont admit theres a problem. Isnt the first time ive had this from their support if they reply at all. Ive made power setting changes, registry edits, board sleep settings etc and no joy. Edited February 26, 2018 by DCUK6
Ertech Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 They say it is related to the network images or GPO settings... Takes no responsibility as you said... I have their older generation of iboards which dont suffer any of the issue ( btw same network and GPO settings) - it is only the latest version which has the problem
Michael Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 So do these boards utilise both VGA and USB connectivity? And if so, if you disconnect the USB cable as a test and wait 30 minutes, does it all still switch off?
Ertech Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I do experience the issue with the OPC module.
DCUK6 Posted February 26, 2018 Author Posted February 26, 2018 Have the built in module here as well. Now 3 years old so going to need replacing soon as they are getting slow. Going to remove the built in and replace with a Intel NUC type device. Screen can do whatever it likes then and the pc will stay on.
