ICTDirect_Dave Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 A massive game update available today. Around 7GB total! Patch notes here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/378706-2-4-The-Return-Patch-Notes Tasty cinematic trailer here: Finally some Thargoid action! 1
DeGrimmy Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 I've been waiting for this for quite a while now! Unfortunately it releases right when my gaming schedule is a little cluttered (AKA Divinity: Original Sin 2 taking up all of my play time!)... But I'll most definitely return to Elite, probably right when the War kicks off... 1
DGardiner Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 I want to believe! i love elite i really do, but the lack of content and the need to exploit to make any worthwhile sums of money puts me off.. that and i got my imperial cutter already . 1
ICTDirect_Dave Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 That and i got my imperial cutter already . Damn your Cutter! I have a maxed out Python as my everyday ship which is bags of fun. I've spent a bit of time recently getting involved in the Thargoid activities. I got some good shots of one harvesting a barnacle site the other day which was interesting. When the war kicks off I get the feeling it'll be a lot more immersive again. 1

The Engineers update definitely took the wind out of my sails a little. I played the game a lot, but was never willing to put that much time into collecting materials and data for engineer upgrades. I've done a few basic tweaks on my FAS, but, being more of a combat oriented pilot, I know that if I find myself being attacked by someone focused on PvP, I'm likely going to be disadvantaged. I'd love to go back to the old days, where I could win battles in my Viper Mk III... But small ships get nowhere these days.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 So far I've found the engineers to be pretty easy. Materials are fairly easy to come by, especially if you find some of the derelict megaships (systems and names below) WOLF 485A - Lowell Class Science Vessel (Bulk Cruiser)TAPIRAPE - Hogan Class Transport (Bulk Carrier)Hyades Sector DR-V c2-23 - Dav's Hope (abandoned mining settlement) The derelicts churn out materials and if you sit in the right place with a couple of collector limpets you can get enough to go crazy with the modifications in no time at all.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted September 27, 2017 Author Posted September 27, 2017 So I only played a little last night, but things are certainly interesting. There are now "Nonhuman signal sources" with threat level five scattered all over the place. You'll find a bunch of broken ships and one curious Thargoid that soon turns angry. I've seen Anacondas ripped apart in about 40 seconds. Galnet has been quiet so far, but i've seen a bunch of Imperial & federation shipyards that are smoking ruins now, all the ships in dock also destroyed. The Search and rescue missions seem to involve diving into one of the nonhuman signals and trying to recover escape pods from the hulks before you get taken out yourself. This could be fun again
Ksavage413 Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 The Thargoids have been seen taking Occupied Escape Pods. There does seem to be a way to not have them turn hostile, you have to keep a minimum safe distance from them with your weapons stowed, which is interesting. The bubble of 'hyperdictions' has spread out to the sectors around Maia. In lighter news, the changes to routeplotting is very welcome!
DGardiner Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 You guys should get in on this: before its nerfed its slow to start as your rep is getting raised but gets to be alot of cash pretty quick, on my 3rd run now in a 128 passenger cutter and my payout is 25-30m and im only friendly with 1 agent in the station 1
