Replacing Smart with Display Screens

If all else fails a really good clean of the screen and sensors can't hurt and has the mouse been replaced in the class as well?. The board may well be responding to something the mouse is doing (into grasping at straws territory here!) No flickering lights in the class etc? (shot in the dark;-)

cleaned the bars/screen myself repeatedly. to my knowledge no odd lights. From the description im 100% sure its the screen as you can see circles appear where it thinks your fingers are it dosent do that when you use the mouse so the screens responding to some sort of input (maybe the class is haunted it is a victorian building lol)

 

tbh with my experience with these boards (and its not just that school its at least 2 others i know of as well) i seriously wonder if just buying a big tv and having a touchscreen pc isnt actually a better solution as that way when the teachers using the screen they dont have to have their back to the class the desk pc can be placed so they can still see the kids or even use a surface like device and miracast then they can wander and still use the board

My 6000 series have been fine, i run 5m cables (usb & hdmi) to a face plate and then a 2m lead to the machines and ive had no issues. It flashes up with smart update when the firmware update is available.

Out of 25 ive got i had one that broke in the first week or so where the screen went all shades of pink and green lines. Phoned SMART and new one was fitted onsite with 36hours by their engineers!

We've got 80" Genee boards with a seven year warranty. They've only been in six months but no problems yet, good support if we have asked a question, and the staff like them.

We use the Smart Notebook app so teachers have more freedom to teach as well. I suggested a similar setup with Miracast etc but they all wanted to keep the Smart solution.

@talksr Hopefully I can help. I would definitely recommend the SMART hardware, the SPNL- 6265 is a fantastic bit of gear, however, I understand that budgets can be extremely tight, for that reason we do offer a variety of manufactures at different price points. BenQ are extremely competitive on their new range. RP653K and RP704K are really competitive for a 4K IFP. SMART, unfortunately, don't have an entry-level panel, as the 4000 series has gone EOL now!... Edited September 29, 2017 by VeryPC_Ross

So, this of you with NON SMART LCD's. How are you opening notebook files if at all?

I assume they would be using the last free version (11.4) or paying Smart for the software. It is much more expensive to purchase if you don't have mostly smartboards in your school.

for the BenQ's mentioned above, all come with Oktopus, that supports the mentioned native 3rd party brand files. worth trying the free demo, and if needed we can loan a screen to test on.

We have also been looking to replace a couple of our Ageing SMART (UF55 & SB660s) setups with display screens. I was set on getting the SMART 4065's but we are struggling to find stock with them being EOL. How do the BenQ screens compare, the Clevertouches are a little out of our price range.

obviously I'm biased... if you PM me I can arrange for one of the team to contact you about a demo. We've been in the touchscreen market a while, learnt a lot from this and from our projector R&D, putting this back into our touchscreens. the latest range is all 4K with a decent scalar, cable free image, OTA updates, anti-bac glass, multi touch, NFC, flicker free and low blue light panels, with a 5 year warranty. all in all we should represent good value for money.

Notebook prior to 11.4 can be used legally on 3rd party screens with no licensing issues - which would mean you could save a fortune on screen costs by using a 3rd party screen. This is a loophole - up to 11.4 - after that you get watermarks and all sorts of issues.

 

Definitely not what I was told. I know it'll work and doesn't cause issues with watermarks and reduced functionality, but to use it legally I was always under the impression you had to have a licence - which generally you acquire by using it on a Smart device. Get it in a contract from the person providing the license with them accepting liability before you deploy it.
