I wanted to ask others who use Salamander to auto create their Google Classrooms the following ;

Students who were in Year10 last year had access to a Google Classroom (say 10-3 IT). Now that they are in Year 11 should students still be able to see the year 10 Google Classroom if it hasnt been archived by the teacher? We have a teacher who wants the students to continue to use the same google classroom as they did last year as it has a lot of resources in it but the students cant see it anymore. The teacher hasn't archived it so he can still see it but they can't.

How do you deal with Google Classroom in these situations? We don't tend to get involved in Google Classroom as its all automated via Salamander so any help would be appreciated.

As I understand it, it's as you desire.

The classrooms from last year freeze on ~31st July with memberships as of that date, then additional new ones appear on ~1st September.

I'll find someone and check ours.

We are on prem AD only at the moment, but for an additional data point in your quest for understanding....

Salamader set things up the way you ask them to. So for us, class groups that existed last year and this year change members because the members of 7ma1 last year are now members of 8ma1 this year, and not attending the 7ma1 lessons. To work round this we requested salamander manage the groups/classes linked to the academic year, when the group ceases to exist in sims it stops being updated, and if the academic year changes, then a whole new set of groups get created, leaving the previous year groups unchanged. Files / Folders / Shares/ ACLS based on last years 7ma1 group remain and students and teachers continue to be able to access them.

(for those concerned about how many groups my users end up members of, it would take about 70 years to hit the group membership for user objects)

For clarification then - Your students remain members of the previous years Google Classrooms and these appear in their active list of Classrooms when they log in to Google Classroom?
