Renfield-64 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 When I create a new user in AD (I do this by copying an account in the correct OU) the new user logs on and just before it hits the desktop is logged off again. I've tried deleting and re-creating the profile but the same happens. I have had this problem before but can't for the life of me remember what the issue was and how I solved it. When I googled it some responses point to the registry but it can't be this because I've tried on different PCs with the same result. Anyone know what's going on here? Server 2012 Windows 7 Enterprise Thanks
6Foot2 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 When I create a new user in AD (I do this by copying an account in the correct OU) the new user logs on and just before it hits the desktop is logged off again... Does this happen for every new user you create? (does it help to try copying from a different user? Perhaps your user 'template' is the source of the issue?)
Renfield-64 Posted September 14, 2017 Author Posted September 14, 2017 Hi, It's only happened with a new user I created today. I've tried re-creating from a different user but same result. I've created other users within the last week and they have been fine.
Davit2005 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 (edited) Any User Profile error messages or group policy profile errors?? Edited September 14, 2017 by Davit2005
Renfield-64 Posted September 14, 2017 Author Posted September 14, 2017 No, just logs on then logs off again.
Davit2005 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Enable Verbose logging for a host that is having this issue and/or log in with local admin and see if any errors in event logs
Renfield-64 Posted September 14, 2017 Author Posted September 14, 2017 Ok I'll have a look at the event log.
mrwoberts Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I saw this recently on a Windows 10 PC (1703) until I rebooted, applied the two outstanding updates, rebooted and it all settled down again. I don't think it is the server, I think it is the client pc with the problem.
dapaulio Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Does it log you off for the first time logging in on each computer Or Only the first time it logs on anywhere? Any first time logon scripts. I have a logon script that fixes adobe elements profile which is initialised if the user logs in to any of the media computers for the first time.
Renfield-64 Posted September 15, 2017 Author Posted September 15, 2017 (edited) Whichever computer I log onto it logs me off. Not just the first time. On that particular user it hasn't stayed logged on at all. This is from the event log of the computer. Edited September 15, 2017 by Renfield-64
atomicmunki_ryan Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 You mentioned that you created the account by copying one from the relevant OU (This is also the way I do it), but have you tried creating a user from 'scratch' to see if the problem still persists? Is this happening across all OUs?
dapaulio Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 (edited) Why is there a $ sign after the folder “redirected” A dollar sign normally comes on the share name, not a sub folder within a share Also I never like spaces in my paths. Not saying it’s the cause but I have known spaces causing issues that really shouldn’t be an issue Edited November 2, 2017 by dapaulio
roc1479 Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Are these roaming profiles you're creating? It does seem to be a file permission issue. The $ simple means to hide the directory, this is setup in the share properties.
Renfield-64 Posted February 20, 2018 Author Posted February 20, 2018 Hi, yes it was a permissions thing. I can't remeber how I sorted it now but it is sorted. Thanks guys.
