Printer gpo - printer appears if logged in as domain admin but not as standard user

Trying to deploy printers through gpo's and it appears fine when i am logged in as a domain admin but as any other standard user it does not appear in devices and printers.

Is the GPO set to run in user context? Both the tick option, and the GPO? (Or are you deploying them to the pc?)

If you set it to install to pc, something to check would be the printer is actually shared to those users and they have permissions to print to the printer set.

 

If they manually browse to the shared printer via server and try to install it does it work for them?

It asks them to enter a username and password when connecting.

Then I'd say you have a problem with their permissions to use the printers. (Unless you mean UAC login?)

I think the following policy should remove that popup asking for permission.

 

Computer Configuration/Policies/Administrative Templates/System/Driver Installation

 

Allow non-administrators to install drivers for these device setup classes

 

Allow Users to install device drivers for these classes:

{4658ee7e-f050-11d1-b6bd-00c04fa372a7}

{4d36e971-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}

Not that I've seen, unless you use the top level "print server" permissions but think that'd probably cause you more hassle

Couldnt do it in one go so did all 30 printers manually! Thank you for your help on this!
