Remote Wake Up?

Is it possible to install any (free) software that will enable me to remotely wake up my PC over the internet? I have a Gigabyte GA-8IPE775-G (Rev. 1.1) Motherboard. I think it has Wake On LAN, but I'm not sure. However, is there an alternate way of doing this? I am on a static IP too, if that helps!

I reckon you can so long as you can find a way to send the magic packet to the computer, which means you need to find a way to join the network your computer is on such as vpn.

i have been using "Special Operations Software"

its a free util that will start/shutdown/reboot/gpupdate all from right clicking the computer container in user&computers

i'll be checking out the program above now as i'm looking for somthing that does all that.

 

I currently use one just for waking up specific computers. It's a program called mc-wol. you put it in the System32 folder of your computer, and then run it in DOS.

 

I've written a script that does this for me at 7am every morning (set in the schedualer on a server, so i know it'll be on)

 

The only down side is that it works off MAC addresses, so you need to get the mac addy and make your script off that.

 

The script is easy to make, it's just:

 

MC-WOL [MAC Address]

As far as I'm aware it's not possible to send magic packets over the internet (easily at least) so as mentioned above you will be best to provide a VPN / remote desktop / webpage on your network that can be access over the net to send the magic packet over the network. This then uses normal wake on lan.

Is this your personal computer at home or is it a computer on a network? if it's the latter, then what we've got is a web page which uses the Depicus wake on LAN activex to send a magic packet.

 

This allows me to sit at home, turn on the PC on my desk at work and then use remote desktop to access my own PC (published through ISA server). We've used this setup for a (small!) number of staff who occasionally want to work from home but have access to all the network facilities (not just files on home drives and similar)

Sorry, I totally forgot to mention, I wanted this solution for home. We already have WoL enabled on our network using a util called RW.exe and all it requires is the MAC Address.

 

So, personal home solution please!
