Got an odd login problems with some of our computers.

When pupils login there taking ages on "preping windows" CTRL+ALT+DEL and escape it off it clears off but leaves the desktop and start menu (Classic Shell) frozen.

Have to log off and sign back in.

Any ideas?

(The pupils start menu and desktop are redirected to our file server)

Could be a number of things. How hard is your file server working at these times? How are the links back to the server coping? Anything in the Windows logs? What disks are in the clients? Wifi or wired?

All clients are SSD.

1gb backbone. 2x1gb plugged in to server via server switch.

Nothing standing out in the Logs.

I will reboot the file server after hours.

Could simply be that the server is getting hammered. Worth looking at the utilisation during these times. Check for any disk issues too.

Just noticed that a driver is missing for a SAS device.

Bloody Server 2016.

Could be - I found that I could happily ditch Classic Shell with 1703 and go back to default. Not so with 1607.

I got 7 computers reimaging and on 4 i'm uninstalling CS... We Will see
