[bug/error] Searches are missing results?

To replicate:

 

Search all forums for "Kerboodle", using basic search box. See ~100-odd results returned across 5 pages.

 

Click page 3 of the results. Forum tells you that page doesn't exist/no results.

 

(I was looking for a Kerboodle thread in which someone had posted a handy tool for un-munging Kerboodle's terrible backend and I'd posted a reply, so I know the thread exists).

I will have a look at the search engine system tonight and rebuild it.

Hey was going to post something similar but using the mobile app. Searched for the amusing error messages thread and it didn't come up.

Right I have had a trawl through everything and rebuilt indexes. It appears the initial count of how many results (and by extension how many pages are shown) is going by the amount of posts NOT the amount of threads.

So when you search it shows a lot more results on the bottom than threads which is half the amount based on Kerboodle. When you switch to the 2nd page it then finally shows the correct results totals.

I searched the db directly using sql and the totals matched up so its not actually the search engine missing results, its a bug with the totals being sent back. It seems to send back the amount of posts not the amount of unique threads.

I am going to see if there was a patch for the search to fix the totals returned but at least no results appear to be missing as such.
