Just been looking at the adaptors - but they seem to all be BT socket to rj45 - but the spa is rj11 - am I looking at the right thing?

 

Yeah struggling to find one myself, you could use one of these - RJ11 Plug to RJ45 Socket Line Adaptor (Model No. BK4509PG) | eBay

 

Then plug the pabx adpater ( Pro Signal 31070R RJ45 to PABX Master Socket Adaptor | eBay ) into that.

 

Might be easyer just to get a new phone (as long as it does not require the ringing capacitor).

 

If you have a spare master telephone socket and an RJ11 cable you could make an adapter by connecting the center two cores of the RJ11 to terminals 2&5 on the socket.

 

Also bare in mind some phone cables are wired differently - some use the inner two cores and some use the outer two.

 

If you want a cheap phone to confirm this is the problem I use the argos value phone Buy Simple Value Corded Desk Telephone - Single at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Telephones, Telephones and accessories, Technology. for testing lines and that definitely works with a straight RJ11-RJ11.

Thanks for that - I'll have a look - though as you say, new phones might be the way to go - I was only wanting to give the VOIP line a thorough testing prior to shifting my current landline number over to Sipgate so I can dump the Virgin line rental charge. I'll pop down to Argos and grab one of those cheapo ones for testing now - thanks again for your help - its saved me a lot of aggro
