Prevent macs from saving encrypted files to the network

Hi all

 

We have an issue with a few regular contractors who come in with macs.

 

They save files on the network shares and, as their macs are set to encrypt data, the files they save on the network are encrypted and this causes all kind of issues with opening the files, and copying data.

 

I'd like to find a way to prevent macs from saving encrypted files on the windows network. At the very least, do any mac users know how I can manually show the mac users to copy the files in such a way that they aren't encrypted at the time?

Could use FSRM and block the encrypted file types from being saved.

I can't block the *type* (in this case mp3 and 4) as it's used by other users on other devices without issue.

 

Can FSRM block encrypted files from being created? Encrypted MP3 or 4 files should never be created here.

Hi, I use an encrypted mac and transfer files and they don't stay encrypted once they leave my machine. Are the contractors using built in FileVault or something else? If they're using FileVault, could it be that the files they are transferring are in a zip created on the mac and then unzipped on a pc using the built in windows unzipper? This has caused me lots of headaches as the files are marked as encrypted and can't be backed up or deleted or decrypted easily.

It could have come from a zip file originally. Hard to know. All we see on the network are mp3/4 files with the associated folders that imply they came from macs. For now we've had to copy everything off then wipe the disk and put it back again.

If they are using FileVault this only encrypts the startup disk not files saved anywhere else. Perhaps the files are either corrupted or the user is creating an encrypted folder first on the Mac then copying this folder.
