Good Morning/Afternoon

I have recently taken over a new school, server has been rebuilt with Server 2012r2, current Wi-Fi system is Ubitquiti Unifi Pro. Problem the ICT Co has voiced is that, when a class set of laptops have been taken out say 15 or so, at least 10 will load the desktop fine and show all pupil icons, where a select few will load but show no desktop at all. If the ICT Co was to load those laptops with the issue the next day or afterwards they load fine. Most of the laptops have been Delprof and some still load without a desktop.

Is there a possible strain on the network? I am sure that the WIFI should be capable enough to cope with 15 systems wirelessly.

Anything in GPO that could be applied to allow laptops to wait for a stable connection?

I am confused with this, so any help appreciated.

Do you test the laptops with same issue on a different AP?

When the get moved around some of them might be picking up an AP that has more clients attached to it than the one your testing on.

You should be able to see this in the console as well.

Have a look at some of the effected laptops and look in event logs. Are you redirecting desktops??

You can set a policy to wait for network.

Try and make yourself available too see the problem for yourself.

Hi JATSO,

We have only had them all in one room at present, do you suggest taking those issued laptops to a different room, log off and on again and see if they desktop loads.

If it does load, are we assuming the AP is the issue?

Hi Davit,

We do have redirected desktops for Pupils. I have asked for the ICT CO to provide EventViewer screenshots on issued laptops.

What I have found when having connection issues with the Ubiquiti system is that sometimes a simple reboot of the AP has solved the connection issues on a batch of clients because they had lost the connection on the nearest AP and was picking it from another AP with more clients and a weaker connection. The Ubiquiti console should give tell you what AP is running the clients.

Good idea of Davit2005 nothing better than seeing it for yourself, could also be a problem with the individual users profiles, if they are too big then it causes problems.
