Hi All,

A question... there are 3 of us here and we have all received an amended job description headed "role profile form". It is without doubt the most appallingly typed document full of typos, aside from that there are areas which worry us as far as how we should respond to it. Our concern is how does this document (when corrected) affect our job description.

has anyone else had such a document?

On a lighter note we have all been told that our holiday entitlement has been increased to 24 weeks! So not all gloom and doom :)

First contact union get there view and how they feel you should go forward as if lea wide je thing then they probably got some official advice so that everyone does the same.

Also look at documents that come with it to see if there is appeal proccess (don't tell them about spelling mistakes until you appeal as adds weight to fact the document has been ill prepared.)

As said you need to speak to union you are a member I hope (if this site does one thing I hope it gets everyone on it to get an join a union as working in schools you need it).

24 weeks?!? Almost half a year?!? Damn, have you become a teacher... :p

24 weeks?!?

Sure you're not being impaled onto a pro-rata arrangement?

If it was me, I'd send it back until it's typed properly, but that's just because I'm a pedantic git.

Are you currently fulltime or termtime only?

How embarassing for the union and the LEA if they've let a document like this out in to the wild. Who typed it up? A monkey? And as for the 24 weeks holiday - I'd sign it and then promptly book the next 6 months off and see what they say!

Going with what the others said.. sign it but i would work it out so i would only work a couple of weeks at a time before im on holiday again or have half the year off and get a second job :)

Yes, phone the LEA and ask if they've got a vacancy for the position of monkey trainer....

I doubt that a monkey would type as badly as this, it is typical of an inexperienced word user using tables with a fondness for the enter key! the result is sentences that have the end missing etc!... Looking forward to the 24 weeks :-) now where shall I go??

We assumed that is what was intended however it says in black & white 24 weeks and is signed by the business manager and is on school headed paper ... what is a techie supposed to do... disagree with the business manager... surely not!!

sign it and photocopy it before you hand it in then you have proof of the 24 weeks holiday!

Ooohh.... have a trip round the world!

I would say to union not happy as might come up with it but you don't have to accept it talk to local ed rep see what they say.

May I ask what points not happy with?

Russ,

We are not happy with the expansion of our JD to include areas outside of IT, no mention of the development work we do with website and various Open Source software. Our school has a heavy IT presence with circa 8 servers 400 PCs 150 laptops IWB in every classroom etc etc. The development is not covered at all.

If your not happy with it then you shouldn't have signed it !

The job description is doing to form the basis of the type of work you do and the amount you get paid. If there are aspects of your job that are omitted from the new job description then you won't get paid for it in future. I suspect that development/procurement of future systems is probably weighted quite heavily in a job evaluation. Had you not signed it I would recommend that you appeal the evaluation.

It was signed as acceptance of the pay rise and holiday entitlement (which is clearly meant to be days and not weeks)

The actual job description is still very much up for negotiation. In any event the number of mistakes on this document makes it very difficult to properly understand all the aspects of the description.
