Convert .swf flash files to HTML5

Hi All,

 

Don't know where to post this, hopefully this will do...

 

I am a complete n00b at this, so don't even know if I'm asking the right question to be honest!

 

As per the title, we are trying to get some educational resources to run in a browser without needing flash.

 

Will the rest of the resource need to be re-written once we have converted the flash files?

 

Is there a better option to convert them to?

 

Are there any free tools to convert .swf files?

 

If so which are the best?

 

If not are there any recommendations for paid converters?

Adobe Animate CC might be your best bet (especially since SWF is their format).

 

You could give the trial version a try to see how well it works?

Used this to decompile Flash years ago but not sure how good it is these days:

Hmmm, then at that point I would stop. You'll almost certainly find that it violates the EULA to decompile or modify the compiled product. My advice would be not to go there in a school environment. If they still exist, speak to the publisher to see if a non-Flash version has been built (lots of stuff is going that way due to the abundance of mobile-OS devices now in schools).

It's an old piece of software devised by an ex-teacher/friend of the school (and we use this resource quite extensively). Although it was his original concept, I believe he paid someone to code it. I have been asked by him for advice on how to make it relevant as flash becomes redundant (and as rightly mentioned convoluted to run on iPads). I've told him that the flash files would need to be converted, but that's the end of my knowledge on the subject - so thought I'd ask here...

That shouldn't be a problem licensing wise then, though the email chain should be kept. I think Adobe Animate will make this easiest, but looking around it appears that there's still a fair bit of work to do to convert, especially if there's a large amount of ActionScript involved.
