RemoteApp Group Policy Time

Hi,

 

When launching RemoteApp for our users, it takes a while to launch due the group policy setup. Normally our login times are about 20 seconds. Most of this is it pulling the mandatory profile off the server, and configuring folder redirection.

 

I was thinking of setting up loopback processing on the server, to only do a few GPO's.

 

Is this recommended, or advised to speed it up? Our RemoteApp login times are about 30-45 seconds (too long!) for our Staff to be happy I'm not looking at instant, however 10 seconds ish would be helpful.

 

any advice speeding this up would be appreciated!

Had remote app setup in my old school for a few things.

 

First logon was slower, about 10 secs but i left folder redirection etc on. My profiles wernt mandatory however so it was all store on the remoteapp machine.

 

After this first logon for the day i had it setup so it wouldnt log them out and only disconnect so it would be pretty much instant the next time they opened something. You need the memory to do this though.

 

Unfortunatly if our logon times are slow then the first time the user opens an app its going to be slow, you can see by clicking show more the server logging in.

What was the specs of your RemoteApp Machine, and do you have only 1 server, or 2?

Seeing as remoteapp is just "log in to windows server, capture the selected window" then it's just going to be based on the login time to the server.

 

I'm assuming this is a 2012 r2 server or similar. No doubt mandatory profiles from a workstation won't be quite compatible with the server, some apps etc will need to provision again. I tend to use local profiles only for RDS servers.
