[ipad] This iPad is supervised by another computer and cannot be used with this computer

Hi,

 

As the title says.... But, no! Just no!

 

Bit of background info:

 

When we purchased iPads they were originally supervised with a Macbook by someone from the LEA, we later purchased a Mac Mini and they have all since been wiped (more than once) and supervised by the Mac Mini in question, using Configurator 1 (although after upgrading OS on the Mini, we found we could no longer use AC1 and had to install AC2).

 

They are all managed by Lightspeed MDM, and we have an Apple School Manager account.

 

It is at this point that I will admit I am totally confused by iPads, Macs and to be fair Apple in general!

 

So, a teacher gives me 5 iPads and says that the children have created videos and could I deal with them...

 

I have done similar things for a few photos previously, so I thought I would just have to do the same - but OH NO! I attach the first iPad to the Mac Mini and iTunes pops up "This iPad is supervised by another computer and cannot be used with this computer".

 

Well, that has totally thrown me - because it isn't! I still managed access to the video by saving it and exporting it using the (confusing) 'Photos' app on the Mac but the message still concerns me.

 

Does anybody know what on earth is going on? Explanations in VERY simple terms please...

Have you tried to authorise iTunes on the MacBook?

There is an MDM policy, in meraki it is called allow host pairing. I think this is what you need to allow. It may be called something different in lightspeed.

I'm not 100% but when it the iPad I question was initially supervised by a MacBook, if this option was not enabled in configurator, then the only way round it is to put it in recovery mode and resupervise.

I also hate the over complicated setup arrangement especially when using configurator, I tend to go for DEP where possible.

I do seem to remember having this issue but cant remember the resolution off hand. I do seem to think I was reimaging the ipads at the time anyway.

the other thing i remember doing wastransferring my blueprint and configs to configurator 2 as it didnt do it automatically.

 

I'll have a look over my notes on monday when im back in.
