Has anyone got a internal free filter working behind the LEA firewall?

In the past I've tried but importing the LEA certificates and getting https to work was always a issue.

Any recommendations?

I've tried getting prices for lease line etc but the cost is almost double what we pay now.

Thanks

At the first school I worked at we had our LEA put us on the less restrictive proxy and we ran our own internal, limiting access to website categories via LDAP user groups rather than a blanket setting for all users. We eventually moved to our own leased line which worked out a lot cheaper even factoring in the additional cost we were paying for our own proxy servers. Edited by Davit2005

Cheapest weve been quoted is £829 monthly for a 30mb down connection.

We are in the middle of nowhere so completely crazy prices leaving the LEA.

Got a old machine so will have a play with a few later.

Hi DCUK6,

have you only had one quote? I'd be happy to look at some pricing for you. Being in a rural area can be an issue, but we have a lot of flexibilty in terms of carrier choice and technology used.

kind regards

I'm not sure that any of the free filters meet the current legal requirements, and adding an additional filter will probably restrict some of the capabilities of the LEA filter (e.g. you may not be able to do age-appropriate differentiated filtering). So be a bit careful that you're still meeting your requirements.

We have installed our (non-free) filters in front of LEA filters in the past. Its not always clear which filter needs to be adjusted when things don't work though, so we usually advise against it.
