Aruba 200 series POE Injector alternatives

Is there any POE injectors that i can use for a Aruba 200 series access point instead of the aruba ones? I don't really want to spend £70 on a POE injector unless I have too. Is there any alternatives?

Surely you can any PoE injectors? We tend to use the TPLink 150S black gigabit ones with all our PoE equipment if the switches dont have PoE features.

BV Tech ... from USA....They do 15.4W gigabit injectors and they also do 30W 802.11at ones for not much more....and they are cheaper if you buy them in packs...I think they do 4 , 6 and 8 packs.

 

I've only used the 30W units - and they seem just fine.

 

Take a good look - a really good look at the specs - for any wireless access points. Some sacrifice functional features like a second Ethernet port, or the 3 or 4th stream in order to keep the product within the 802.11af power limit. So if you want a full functioning access point you will need the 30W units....and indeed better PoE switches.....and possibly cat6 cabling...

I need a few injectors for some Cisco 2602Is

 

We've got a couple on very long cable runs that have just failed (the APs run from the switch and other points around the school, just not on these two runs). They're currently running from a Cisco SG 300-10MP switch.

 

We also need to add POE to two independent cable runs running a 2602I and a longer range AP we've yet to buy.

 

Can you get any injector or do they have to be Cisco compatible?

The ONLY access point that I am aware of which requires its own PoE injectors are the earlier Ubiquiti ones which are 12V (or is it 24V?)....but you get them delivered with the access points. As far as I know all other access points are the standard 48V ones. This is a the voltage that PoE switches deliver.....

 

But, you do need to think about power. Because "standard" PoE delivers around 15W (802.3af)....and while this was OK for most 2 and some 3 stream "n" access points it tends not to be enough for many "ac" access points - which ideally require 30W. (802.3at). You need to read the small print carefully - because even access points that claim to work on 802.3af you will find don't work fully with that power level. Either they can't support both radios, and/or they can't support more than 2 streams, or MU-MIMO or they can't support the second Ethernet port. And if you are unable to use these features because of that you might start wondering why you invested in those expensive new access points.

 

CAT6 and its later variants tends to be much better at getting PoE to the access point because the wires are typically thinker. CAT5E works for limited length runs. Sometimes I move a PoE injector out of the cabinet to be near the access point for a long run....which is fine until someone turns off the electric to it.

Similar situation. Which POE access point will work with these AP then as need at least 2 injectors.
