Hi guys,

we're looking at replacing our core switches, HP 7506, possibly with Huawei S7700 Series Smart Routing Switches - link.

Does anyone here have any experience with Huawei kit in general, or these switches in particular? If so, are they reliable, easy to configure etc please? From what my boss has told me, they sound quite promising.

Thank you

Blimey, lots of views, but only the one response. I guess no one else uses them then.

Thank you Matthew, that's what I've been told. I guess that's a good thing.

Thanks

Hi Mavhc,

I think that's what we're looking to do. However, a demo/trial for a short period of time is a bit different to how things behave a few months/years down the line.

Thanks

I'm using them here - 5700 series, and been very pleased with them so far. Core has been in for a couple of years, got a couple of other cabs with them in (rolling replacement of Cisco). Port number are the other way up from Cisco which made config take a little longer (mainly when I misreplaced values), but they seem very capable. Got various autodefend features turned on. UK team seem very good as well in terms of spec'ing what you need for the job you're looking to do.

Hi Martin. So unlike HP, and some other manufacturers, they only have a 10 year warranty? Hmmm. That's something to consider.

Thank you

Most have 10 (or lifetime which is equivalent of 10) they come with 5 you can get them to quote for 10 but be prepared for a price shock.

Edit: I think they are new to the education market they are very competitive and from the back-end infrastructure are probably not ready yet for education pots of money what come and go and the need to keep stuff going as long as possible and to not replace so regularly, they will probably revise this at some point..
