Asgard Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 (edited) Fantastic. Looks like we could utilise this extensively. I'll also be giving you guys a call this summer as we look for Impero alternatives. @clockend25end I've just ditched impero for School/DNA at one of the schools in our MAT and its gone down really well. Getting reports like this.... But even better it's not Impero. Just deploying their service desk to the college I work in. Netsupport FTW. Edited June 6, 2017 by Asgard 2
mullet_man Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 I've got the email with license details, many thanks. I haven't deployed DNA yet but am planning to use DNA and Notify on the same server am guessing there is no issues with this? Cheers.
DJ-1701 Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Probably me being really thick ... I am planning to deploy this tomorrow via Silent Install. I assume i can push the MSI out by silent install and then use the Group Policy ADM/ADMX templates to configure all the required settings or am i going to have to mess around with ini/dat files? Dean. You can push out the settings via the ADM or ADMX templates, correct. To sum up what has been discussed and worked out among posts regarding installation via MSI... After you have configured your NetSupport Notify Server, copy "C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSupport\NetSupport Notify\NSN.ini" from the server to the location you have placed the MSI for deployment. # Option 1) If you want to configure settings at time of installation: Copy "C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSupport\NetSupport Notify\Config.dat" from the server to the location you have placed the MSI for deployment. # # Option 2) If you want to configure via GPO: Copy the contence of "C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSupport\NetSupport Notify\ADM Templates\ADMX" from the server into your PolicyDefinitions folder on the SYSVOL. Create or Edit a Workstation GPO, NetSupport settings will be found in Administrative Templates -> NetSupport Notify. Note: If you get an error trying to edit a GPO, rename the "C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSupport\NetSupport Notify\ADM Templates\ADMX\en-GB" folder to "C:\Program Files (x86)\NetSupport\NetSupport Notify\ADM Templates\ADMX\en-US" and copy into your PolicyDefinitions folder on the SYSVOL. # Deploy the MSI via your deployment method. 1
DJ-1701 Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Out of interest, is there a way to manually clean the database of previously sent messages?
Al_NetSupport Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 (edited) Out of interest, is there a way to manually clean the database of previously sent messages? Sorry @DJ-1701 been in meetings today. The product is designed to keep a full history but there are ways to remove and start afresh if you need to. So if you stop the Gateway32 service on the notification server, browse to the install directory in Programfiles(x86)\common files\nsl\connectivity server you will find a gateway.DB file, you can delete or rename this file and then when you then restart your Gateway32 service, the server will create a new fresh one. You can keep old ones to reinstate if you need the hsitory but its a quick way to clean down once you have finsihed testing it. Hope that helps Al. Edited June 7, 2017 by Al_NetSupport 1
DJ-1701 Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Sorry @DJ-1701 been in meetings today. Sorry? You take 9 minutes to get back to me and you're sorry? That's faster then a lot of responces I get! Al_NetSupport Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 Sorry? You take 9 minutes to get back to me and you're sorry? That's faster then a lot of responces I get! Got to maintain standards I know its a pain when you are in the middle of something and just need a quick answer so you can get it finished. If you need me quick you can always PM me and I get an alert on my phone. 1

You can use the same box for both, yes 1
fiza Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 For those installing just make sure you don't install via an RDP session unless its an /admin session. I did this first time around and Notify just wouldnt work right. Support told me it was because I installed it via RDP without using /admin 1
Primus Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 NetSupport products certainly do seem finicky about using RDP to install them.

Al_NetSupport Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 NetSupport products certainly do seem finicky about using RDP to install them. I can't disagree, would like to, but better to be open. We do find a fair small percentage of our support calls are about remote install via a non-admin RDP and sometimes, RDP causes the install to not be entirely successful. I always recommend its better to install directly onto the server machine when possible. That said, once installed we are amazing Did a quick stat check on licences for NetSupport Notify, so far in June we have shipped 88,227 licences ( suspect a lot are edugeek users ) and now have 1,775,619 licences deployed by 8,775 schools, hospitals or companies. Al.
Tesla Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 More importantly - what do you think our next edugeek offer should be - a particular feature/product ( Remote Control, ServiceDesk / Classroom management or another IT Management offer with NetSupport DNA? Al. Oops, forgot to reply to this bit. I'm unsure if you can do much more! (unless you offer similar discounts on other parts of the netsupport line...) Only other thing i can think of was if you offered a discount on products if you already have a subscription to something else.... (IE I have the DNA subsrciption, so maybe then should be eligible for s slight discount on one of the other services) just my 2p's worth, i'm not a MD or a saleperson! 1

Thanks @Tesla, really appreciate the feedback. I think its important to listen and hear feedback from customers, so when we do an offer (we try and do these regularly) it's one that will hopefully benefit everyone. Will definitely add your feedback into the mix.

OllyMc27 Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Has anybody fully setup the custom alert sounds yet? I'm struggling to find a good library of sounds to set for the different levels and wondering if anybody has a load they can share. Thanks

I'm struggling to find a good library of sounds to set for the different levels and wondering if anybody has a load they can share. Thanks Hi @OllyMc27 everyone has their own preference but i tend to use sites like FreeSound https://www.freesound.org/search/?q=alarm where you can create an account and download any number of royalty free sound clips for free. Will take a look at creating a few variations to include in our next update. 2

colly72 Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 I signed up for this a few days ago but still haven't had anything back. Is there a delay on getting these processed, or do I need to go through the process again?

Is there a delay on getting these processed, or do I need to go through the process again? Sorry @colly72 , we have had hundreds and hundreds register, but I thought we were fairly up to date. Have blipped the team and asked them to expedite yours. Al 1
colly72 Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 Thanks Al, I thought that may be the case, I just wanted to make sure I'd completed the form correctly!

Have blipped the team and asked them to expedite yours. Al Good to know, I was wondering too, but wouldn't've had chance to look at it yet anyway, so no rush with me (or my techies)
