EoFTTC - Daisy chained BT sockets

I noticed in our cabinet today that BT have daisy chained multiple sockets together for our EoFTTC connection. It looks as though pairs are taken from the central box with the RJ11 in it (connected to router) to two other boxes positioned either side. What could possibly be the reason for this? There may well be a logical explanation but it seems very cumbersome and the fact that the copper wires are exposed between the boxes leaves them open to breaking which is my main concern.

I had a bunch of sockets installed a few years ago, think there was 3 or 4 sockets taped together running off the 1 cable (obviously different pairs) and that was running with no issues what so ever.

But only 1 socket appears active here?

Is this very common. The cable contains a number of twisted pairs. They install the first socket and use any free twisted pairs in the cable for the additional. Saves running extra cabling.

Additional what? There are no other telephones running off of this.

That does seem a little odd. The BT engineers (and especially contractors want to get the job done as quickly as they possibly can so they'll have deemed it to be that way.

 

It's not the end of the world having the copper wires exposed as I've seen this with lots of DP's with the front just hanging off but its sounds like maybe the engineer didn't do a great job tidying up.

 

Suggest you send a picture to our support department if you're unhappy with it and we can take it from there.

Thank you. Not necessarily unhappy. Ordinarily I wouldn't care but it makes it difficult to rack new hardware. I'll send over a photograph although its been installed for a bit so not sure much can be done now.
