Car aerials

Anyone know about car aerials please? I have a 2000 VW Passat. The standard radio worked fine, I've now replaced the head unit with an MP3 playing one and the radio reception is fairly poor. Can you buy an upgraded aerial which would improve it? Is there anything in particular I'd look for in an aerial?

Known issues with VAG cars having poor signal with aftermarket aerials.

Often you'll need an antenna amp on VAG cars. Neither of my VAG cars will pick up the radio - no amp and I have a USB socket which interferes with it further. Doesn't bother me though.

 

The amplifier takes its power from the blue/white and blue lead on the ISO loom. You may need to solder/join into this - do it on the aftermarket adaptor and not the original loom.
