HP 'Lifetime warranty', only from authorised reseller?

Hi all,

 

About to purchase a new switch and a stacking cable from a HP gold standard partner and to go with it a 2-port stacking module from Amazon (dispatched and sold by them). As far as I can tell Amazon are not a HP silver/gold/platinum partner so does anyone know where we stand in terms of HP's 'lifetime warranty'?

I bought some second hand from a building schools for the future project which was disposing of them. I had one go faulty, phoned HP and a replacement arrived the next day. I only had to provide the serial number - I wasn't asked for proof of purchase.

 

It was a refurb rather than new, but the switch must have been 10 years old.

Found their warranty policy which states ...

 

"5) For products purchased after December 1, 2014, the warranty extends only for as long as the

original end user owns the product. Includes coverage of any built-in fans and power supplies

for the entire warranty period. You may be required to provide proof of purchase or lease as a

condition of receiving warranty service."

 

Think the word "may" being the key here. I'm never that lucky!

I brought a HP switch off eBay for my homelab. It developed an issue with one of the fans after I got it, made a ticket on the HPE website, after providing the serial number and the logs. Got an new switch the next day.

I presume it's a 2920 or 3810 if you've having to buy a stacking module. Can the reseller not get you a really good price on the stacking module? If it's the 2920, have you looked at the 2930 which stacks using a DAC?

Yes it's a 2920 I'm after to go in as the final switch in a 4 switch stack. From what I've read on the documentation they don't stack with the 2930.

You are correct. The 2920/30 do not stack together.
