This is one good thing about cuts, makes councils etc think about the spending and get the best value for money.

I think there will be job cuts along the line. Interesting timing with the comments from people that too much is spent on ICT in BCC. When the NHS evidently doesn't spend enough!

It's a shame that in the public sector seem unable to learn recent lessons from big business, many of whom have ended up bringing services back in house after disastrous and expensive outsourcing attempts. From Call centres, to IT Support - you're much better off running the service internally as you then have 100% control over It's performance, direction, can react to challenges such as new projects, changes in direction, finance issues, and are not tied into strict, restrictive, lengthy contracts.

 

When will they learn. By the sound of it these lot have learned nothing as according to that article, there bringing 200 staff back in house and then going straight back out to tender for the next batch of projects. NO MORE TENDERS DO IT IN HOUSE!!!

I heard that Capita were backing out of Link2ICT and BCC were going to take over its operations.

Yes it's just as bad in Staffordshire, we have a Capita and council Joint Venture - Entrust.

BGfL branding of Link2ICT services has almost stopped completely apart from BGfL365 but it looks like with the Entrust branding they want to drop the BGfL bit. BGfL.org website has been taken down even though there were popular (if old) flash resources on there.

 

I believe Link2ICT is just the Education arm of Service Birmingham. Is there still a conflict of interest issue with Capita SIMS? Guess not but Facilty/CMIS still needs to be killed off. This zombie software has lived on too long!

From what I've heard Advanced Learning were very unhappy when most of their Birmingham schools moved to SIMS due to the hard sell from account managers, it being cheaper(!) and portrayed in far more positive light.

 

So annoyed that they've gone after school who have moved from Facility CMIS to SIMS to make sure if we even need to read the CMIS database using the Facility application we have to buy a one year read only license. This wasn't the case up until a few months ago, they were happy to let us do it free.

 

Hasn't really worked considering I've virtualised my CMIS server and keep it off. If we ever needed some data I would turn it on and use SQL Studio or MS Access to find the data.

 

From what I've heard by Link2ICT is this will take years, and Capita will probably end up staying just with a new name, new corporate structure and very new money.
