POE Switch

Can anyone see any potential issues with having this switch to run 10 POE phones? Or, can anyone suggest a suitable alternative?

Edit: Just realised only 12 ports are POE. So open to suggestions for other switches with full POE really.

We have these running combination of Ruckus 11AC access points and Mitel VoIP Phones;

The key thing when choosing PoE is to check 2 things:

 

1. PoE standard needed for the phones to run

2. The power draw of the devices

 

Difficult to recommend a switch without knowing these.

802.3af / 1.24w to 2.62w is the phone spec.

That first switch would be more than adequate then. 100W PoE budget vs your max 26.2W usage.

Just to clarify my post a bit further and add to @localzuk valid points

 

Across the campus have on average 4x Ruckus R700 11AC APs and about 8-13 Mitel 5320e phones and some Mitel 5360 - the former uses about 6watt idle / 7 typical , the 5360 uses about 8watt typical

 

The Ruckus R700 uses 13w peak

 

Our typical switch has about 192w power but some have 348w available - same model just different SKU

I'd try and stick to whatever brand you currently have deployed in your environment for consistency. I hate Netgear. Their config is terrible.

 

Personally? I like the HP 2530 or HP 2920 series (they go up to 48 ports with or without PoE+)

The problem with HP2530 is that they've doubled in price over the last 3 years. Originally they were not exactly cheap, but now I need a couple more and I literally can't afford to buy them!!!

 

If starting from scratch, I would go Ubiquiti. Such amazingly good value. Infact I may end up starting to go that way anyway, as I want to run some fibre runs at 10gig and the cost to get HP kit running at 10gig is nasty.
