We have a staff briefing once a week which requires staff at 2 different sites to attend a room to watch the briefing. We're currently using Facetime/hangouts for this but finding it to be a bit sketchy and not very reliable.

Does anyone know of some video broadcasting software (free/open source?) which can possible be installed on a server to make it a better experience?

Skype? Skype for Business if you've O365 configured, since everyone's already got a login and you're a couple of GPOs and DNS entries away from making it seamless.

If you homebrew it using OBS or something it'll only be one-way and I'm assuming the briefing is a two-way process and questions/answers can come from either site.

As localzuk and pete have said, OBS would be good for this. We're also having a very long look at Vmix. It's really nicely done; the NDI camera stuff is pretty cool. Edited by Chockster

for the last 5ish years we have been streaming a birdbox mainly internally (with external access to limited people) using an ancient xp machine with composite pci capture card running microsoft expression encoder which then pushes to IIS on a server 2008 running smooth streaming plugin. works great with a client DVR but the web client is silverlight and the way it is streamed means any standard HTML5 player doesn't support it.

I was looking at OBS with nginx but MonaServer looks a simpler setup. Since mentioning this ideas have been going about that we can now broadcast school events online. Youtube Live is interesting but we like to brand things ourself with no reliance of any external 3rd party.

What I can't get to the bottom of is whether nginx or MonaServer can take 2 separate inputs and then subsequently stream them out, presumably with different URL's?

For example we would have the permanent birdcam stream but if we then had an event that required streaming, can the same instance of monaserver or nginx cope with this and if so how?

I am experimenting with Monaserver with OBS but RTMP seems to only stream via a flash based player. This is heading the same way as silverlight.

Has anyone any experience with streaming to something HTML5 compatible?
