Hi All,

Does any of your schools give ID cards to students? We're looking at doing this so they can use our door access system meaning we can lock the school down more and not have to leave doors open for student access.

If you do I'd be interested to hear how your find them? Do student steal, lose or just misuse them?

Thanks

We use MiFare cards for doors, lunches, library and printing.

End up printing around 20/30 replacements a day sometimes, quite a bind.

We use EM4102 cards for student IDs here. They are used for cashless catering and printers. Our doors use the Paxton cards (Hitag 2 based). We don't give students door cards.

The card readers we have read both types on the printers/cashless. (Inepro SCR708.G readers).

The reason for the 2 systems is cost. Paxton's cards are £2.50ish each, compared with EM4102 which are 40p each.

Mifare cards for catering, printing, and door access here. The cashless catering system displays the picture of the student when they scan it, so stealing them is pointless.

Edit: £5 replacement charge excluding PP students. Mandatory paid replacement for defacement of card (scrubbing out photo is popular, card is confiscated immediately when seen). We can't prevent children from getting food, so they are given a cheese or ham sandwich and water if they've no card. The vegan option is a call to parents saying they must bring in lunch or £5 for the card :D

Used for Cashless Catering (no card, no luch)

Used for access control (no card, you can't get through certain doors)

Used for Printing / Photocopying (no card, no printing)

Used for the Library ( no card, no book, no book ->detention)

Used to ensure we know you are supposed to be in school (no visible card while on premises - detention / formal warning (staff) / escorted of premises (visitors) )

Cards are mandatory for a successful time at the school. Maybe 1-5 a day get replaced. All handled by the central admin team.

Replacement cards are about charges at about £5 including the lanyard.

We have found Biostore to be very effective in our environment using MiFare cards. We use it for cashless catering, accessing printers and the front entrance. We use a Paxton system for staff for additional entrances. I would strongly recommend ID Cards if you determine that it will work within your environment.

We charge Students £2.50 for a replacement - this helps make sure they look after their cards.
