Hi,

I am currently in the process of looking at a new Web Filter for the school. We currently use SonicWall Firewalls and I am not sure if the Web Filtering is up to the job. Can anyone comment the SonicWall Web Filter? If we go for a stand alone it will be Barracuda but I want to ensure I am not spending money if the SonicWall will meet PREVENT etc...

You should look at Sonicwall's latest offerings. Their filtering complies with all of the latest requirements of KCSIE and the government's 'Prevent' initiative. Sonicwall will also be able to offer you a trade-up deal on your current unit I'm sure.

...and smoothwall...or pfsense if you want to do it for free. As always - my advice is get some in and test them. Only you can make the right choice. Knowing that 90% of schools have a product doesn't necessarily make it the right product for your school. Meeting the requirements of the "prevent" strategy" should be high on your "wanted" list. The prevent strategy requires you to "monitor" use (not necessarily block) of a number of categories with lists supplied by government. Some web "filters" made outside the UK rarely meet this requirement....or at least not without considerable user configuration.
