marsdenprimary Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Hello! We are a primary school and want to do a live stream of some chicks hatching. What's the best way to do it? I've looked into IP cams etc... but we want something online if possible. Anything out there???
Dos_Box Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 The easiest way I found was to buy an off the shelf birdbox with built in camera then plug it into a av-to-ip convertor (can't remember the one I used way back). One tip though is to put chicken wire around the box to prevent woodpeckers getting in and eating all the chicks. Which is exactly what happended to ours. All streamed live.
Joanne Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Webcam attached to laptop which then live streams to youtube? 1

marsdenprimary Posted April 19, 2017 Author Posted April 19, 2017 That sounds traumatic...fortunately ours are inside although their safety isn't guaranteed as they are in Reception class...! Cheers for the tip although spending extra money for it isn't an option unfortunately - - - Updated - - - The easiest way I found was to buy an off the shelf birdbox with built in camera then plug it into a av-to-ip convertor (can't remember the one I used way back). steveg Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 I have done this before with an old pc, webcam and netcam studio Netcam Studio - Network Camera Monitoring Software I'm pretty sure they offer a free licence to schools if you contact them. I just opened up a couple of ports on the firewall so it could be accessed from outside the school. Steve 1
NikChillin Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 See Nature | Observing Nature in your School Grounds | The Bird Box Project | See Nature offer a good service and easy setup. You can stream to their website and view other birdboxes too.

notalot Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 It wouldn't take much to use OBS (open broadcast software - Freeware)) to stream this using the webcam idea to youtube. 1

Yeah I've been trying to give this a go but it isn't working - just fails to connect to the YouTube streaming server. Could it be a firewall issue do you think?
robsonma Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 We are doing the same thing we get the eggs next week, just been doing some testing as our LEA Lookafter our Firewall and won't open ports. I Have a Laptop Rinning Windows 10 and Connected a Logitech Webcam to it, I signed up to Earthcam (Click Go Live) at the top right of page https://www.earthcam.com/ It Free it gives you a pop-up you click start record and it starts you get a page you can give out the URL for or you can embed to your website which is what We will be doing. All Free and no Firewall issues Hope that helps.
