Never heard of them, just had a quick look, North West based, companies house showing they have been on the go for 5 ish years, monies wise look ok.

Aye I saw that, website is decent however doesn't show any customers or testimonials so thought I would ask.

They have given a good quote for a 200/1000 connection at just under 9k a year

As you're in MK, look at exa's dark fiber offerings. Should be able to thrash that price.

We had a brief look last year and had the option of gigabit uncontended for 6k including SurfProtect filtering. We'll be looking at options in the next 6 months, and it's likely other providers may be able to provide the same sort of setup/price. I think @SchoolsBroadband were either currently or soon able to offer similar, can't remember!

I got web filtering due up next week and a reasonable price for smoothwall which I think I will carry on with for another 3 years as I got BYOD going through it to and not in a position to completely rip it all apart and rebuild it all in a week.

 

Internet is due up July so looking ahead for then, i'm just on the outskirts of MK in Wolverton so hoping they can reach us as the 1GB at 6k is 3k less than our leased line quotes.

FYI 200Mbit using Virgin Media Fibre (no filtering or firewalling) is very doable for under £6k pa. We've also a special offer on from Virgin until the end of May where we can do a full 1Gbit for under £10k pa nationwide on Virgins network (without firewalling and filtering). All pricing uncontended with guaranteed speeds.

You say soon, how soon... Milton Keynes is a great no Virgin zone as an example so at the moment its BT leased line or bust. Obviously awaiting Exa to come back to me RE: Darkie but interested in timelines.

MK is already in a cityfibre area, hence why I mentioned it. I can't imagine Wolverton is too far for it to reach - we in Wellingborough are quite a way from our nearest "fibre city" Northampton, but still close enough to get it.

DarkLight, as you said, is available now in MK and a decent chunk of Northamptonshire too, as well as Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale (Halifax), Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Wakefield, and we don't just do city centre areas, Leeds, for instance, goes out as far as Wetherby and Thorpe Arch, which if you know the area is nowhere near Leeds and we will be announcing new areas this year too.

 

David @SchoolsBroadband mentioned about the Dark Fibre Openreach trial, which we are on directly with Openreach already, the only downside is that the trial areas are VERY limited, Manchester, London, Liverpool and Birmingham and there are a very limited number of slots/services available per CP/ISP. Any Manchester or London schools interested in this let us know ASAP. The trial is due to start imminently and the if all goes to plan within Openreach, will launch nationwide in October 2017. While the price is likely to be significantly more expensive than our already launched DarkLight service (Openreach haven't finalised pricing yet), it does allow us to expand even further afield than what we've already done and utilise the massive DarkLight infrastructure we've already deployed. We also benefit from the two years of experience of delivering Dark Fibre based services (by the time OR DF launches) to customers. Believe me, it is not the same as just taking a leased line from BT or Virgin, and I am glad we've had a lot of experience before Openreach launch.

 

In case you haven't seen this before, this is Openreaches statement on what they expect the full product to be, and how far it can stretch. Bear in mind though before everyone gets's excited, the pricing is VERY likely to be based on the standard EAD model which is distance based (per m) and if you are 45Km from the network point (ISP) then that will be very expensive.

 

"Openreach Dark Fibre Access service offers an uncontended, unmonitored, unlit optical path over an end to end radial distance of up to 45km and a maximum route distance of 86km between two sites. This will be a passive service, and no equipment will be provided to light the fibre provide, hence the reference to ‘dark fibre’ in the product title."

 

And having now said all that, of course, we still offer 100Mbps and 1Gbps leased lines, and our pricing is very competitive everywhere, not just using Virgin as we have built numerous new Datacentre PoPs this year (Sheffield, Northampton and Milton Keynes) where we can deliver DarkLight or traditional "lit" leased lines, and because of the local locations the pricing can be even better if you are nearer our PoPs.
