FN-GM Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Hello, I would love the ability to change share permissions on folders as well as files on Google Team Drive. This means our staff and student share can go Someone else has created a suggestion on Google Cloud Connect and the voting is slowing building up. Any G Suite users who would like to see this, would you mind voting this up please? https://connect.googleforwork.com/ideas/8668 Whilst we are on this, if you want to stop students creating their own team drive, you can vote on this one. https://connect.googleforwork.com/ideas/8805 Thanks
FN-GM Posted April 11, 2017 Author Posted April 11, 2017 Won't let me sign in. Will try again from home. Are you using a standard gmail / Google account or a G Suite account? It needs to be a G Suite account, a Google account won't work. 1
6Foot2 Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Are you using a standard gmail / Google account... Ah. Standard gmail. Thanks.
Ditto Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Upvoted both. For us the biggest block to moving forward has been the inability for staff to move their folders to their new created Team Drives - current the functionality is restricted to Super Admins. There is an idea for this one - please consider upvoting this one too. https://connect.googleforwork.com/ideas/8958 1

FN-GM Posted April 12, 2017 Author Posted April 12, 2017 It's going quite well. It has made it to the first page on the ideas section.
jmak Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Done - tried in the holidays and had to go through a registration process despite being our Google Admin. All working now 1
FN-GM Posted April 27, 2017 Author Posted April 27, 2017 Thanks to all those who voted. One of them is now 3rd from the top
Ditto Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Hope this isn't a hijack? Implementing Team drives has stalled for us as users can not move their folder to the their team drive. Super Users can do it for them but that's not really workable for us. There idea is there already, so if you agree, please do upvote. https://connect.googleforwork.com/ideas/8958#comment-31981
jmak Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 I've come across a workflow issue and I'm not sure whether I need a change of mindset from Windows or a fix in Team Drive. We have a Team Drive for governors which I made them all editors of. This allows them to create and edit files, but not delete them. Only owners can delete files, but they can also add or remove members. Given that the admin can recover files which have been deleted, is there a need to stop editors from deleting? They could clear the contents of the file anyway.
FN-GM Posted July 1, 2017 Author Posted July 1, 2017 Why would it be an issue for them to delete files? Surely they should be treated like members of staff and trusted?
jmak Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 Why would it be an issue for them to delete files? Surely they should be treated like members of staff and trusted? That's what I'm getting at - although not expressing myself well. I want them to be able to delete files, but I don't want them to be able to add or remove users to the team. The only way you can allow them to delete files is to make them owners of the team drive which lets them set permissions, which to me is like letting users set permissions on a network share. Presumably they could also invite users who are not in our Google domain.
FN-GM Posted July 1, 2017 Author Posted July 1, 2017 If you give them Edit rights they will be able to do everything but add other users.
