Adding a HDMI Card to a Lenovo MT-M-1577-N8G

I'm trying to install an ASUS Radeon R5 230 HDMI Graphics card to a Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 71 (MT-M-1577-N8G). My first attempt, following the multi-language instruction, failed with the PC not even booting up.

 

I'm thinking that perhaps I need to alter something in the BIOS before trying again?

Shouldn't be - it should just work when plugged in. However, I've tried certain graphics cards in our older Lenovo desktops and found they wouldn't work with anything newer than those specced by the manufacturer (Radeon HD4*** in that case). It was a pain, and it made no sense. HPs, no issue. May be worth a BIOS update, though I wouldn't bet on that fixing it. Try another card if you have it, any generation. These Lenovos were specced with optional HD5*** and HD6*** cards - got any of them to try? Dave at ICT Direct usually has some.

Lenovo desktops are extremely picky about graphics cards for some reason. We needed to update the bios on a load of M58p and M90p in order to get them to accept Radeon HD5450 cards.
