caffrey Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 I'm looking at a visitor / staff signin project and I'm looking for a cheap touchscreen monitor or similar (AIO?), I was considering a cheap windows tablet but I'm not sure what kiosk stands are available for them.
ComcenCraig Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Morning. What size screen are you considering? And then you would need to know what the VESA of the screen is. You can get kiosks for tablets but again that's dependant on screen size. So there are options open to you.
caffrey Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 Not sure what the ideal size is, and I'm not working to a particular screen resolution at the moment just looking for something that works - I would say something over 10" and landscape but I'm open to anything
VeryPC_Colin_M Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Hi @caffrey, it's a discussion I have often with customers - it can be done but it can be a burden too retaining reliability and manageability. You'll need the touch screen, Device to drive it (or an AiO/Tablet), cables, label printer and accessories, software, custom housing, brackets and what not and in the end it's likely worth the investment in an InVentry system instead. Sorry to be a neggers on a Friday; I'm sure you'll smash it, and am interested in following how you get on.
caffrey Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 I've got the majority of it wrote now, just need a screen for r&d purposes - I see from the screenshots that InVentry seem to use 17" screens
VeryPC_Colin_M Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Yeah, I tend to resell the 19" touch screen entry system with integrated webcam, DBS software and all the usual modules etc with a back up stick. That seems to be most popular. Keep on trucking though, it's interesting to see what you come up with. nothing better than tinkering, more fun than buying off the shelf 1
themightymrp Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 We use a system provided by Biostore that runs an app on 2 windows surfaces. Though to be honest it isn't the most robust software, we have one tablet crash at least weekly.
caffrey Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 We use traditional pen and ink here Was just something I was asked to look into and I try to keep most things in house
ComcenCraig Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 There is Osborne Technologies Entrysign system which have 15" screens (I think) which is a cheaper version of the Inventry System to consider but even that sounds more than you need. If you go with a tablet due to their screen size then there are lockable tablet stand options available on Amazon and places like that.
caffrey Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 That's why I was looking at the linx 1010 tablets, it has full size USB ports and they are cheaper than buying a touch screen monitor on their own (And more than powerfull enough for the app), but it seems most kiosk stands are generally made for iPads
VeryPC_Colin_M Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 (edited) Nice call @caffrey! Hey try these https://www.compulocks.com/space-linx-1010-tablet-enclosure-wall-mount-linx-1010-enclosure-with-security-lock.html they're £88 and will secure the linx and allow you to mount it to a wall or arm bracket. Or go all in with this https://www.maclocks.co.uk/ipad-stand-ipad-enclosure-kiosk/tablet-floor-stands/space-linx-1010-adjustable-floor-stand-kiosk-linx-1010-floor-stand.html for £240 In fact maclocks seem to have quite a suite of solutions for the 1010 https://www.maclocks.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=linx+1010&x=0&y=0 Edited March 31, 2017 by VeryPC_Colin_M 1
caffrey Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 I saw those, and they are quite price prohibitive - I guess because it's a niche market, tonnes more variety on the iPad front. I was going to go the way of using iPads but I'm developing with Microsoft Windows in mind
TLARWise Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Would this work for you? PRO SIGNAL - PSG91243 - Universal Tablet Countertop Kiosk Stand with VESA Mount for 8.9"-10.1" Tablets | CPC UK 1
Oaktech Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 We got hold of a couple of ex cashless catering ELO 17" touchscreens. They were £15 each and we had some logitech 640x480 webcams lying around that did just fine. The pass is printed in the office and the receptionist hands the pass to the visitor with a lanyard. It's all driven off an access database I found online with a file copy job to a tablet every 10 minutes, or manually, for the fire list.
caffrey Posted April 8, 2017 Author Posted April 8, 2017 Went with one of these HT Series - P-Cap Touch Monitors | Hannspree Nice size, not too familiar with the make (longevity etc.) But it works well enough and looks quite nice 1
