Arreks Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 This is mainly to get ideas for myself as I know some of you have really cool setups Mine is: Display: Hitachi 47 inch LED TV Devices: Amazon Fire Stick, Android Kodi Box, Microsoft Display Adapter I have all of this kit yet I still use the TV's built in YouTube app cause I don't want to mess around with loads of remotes! What's the best way to downsize this? I didn't want to put Kodi on my fire stick because it's only WiFi and I have the Kodi box wired atm..
mavhc Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Get a harmony remote, automate multiple remotes. Could get a amazon fire tv, assume that has ethernet.

I read that I'd have to get a harmony remote and hub rather than just remote to get it working with some of my existing ones if they're bluetooth and not IR so that bumps the price up to about £160-260!
Snoochieboochies Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 I'm old enough to remember when you had to get up off your backside to change the TV channel and now people are complaining about having to use different remotes! How times change.
sidewinder Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 Don't understand universal remotes, having multiple ones just doesn't seem like an issue to me, certainly not one to justify spending loads of money on. My dad does it though
3s-gtech Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 How many of these things can you now control with your phone as the remote? That seems like the logical step to me, although obviously not tactile it's a good compromise.
mavhc Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 I buy my harmony remotes on ebay, they're too expensive. Bluetooth is also an issue, an old/cheap android phone with IR and BT might work. Universal remotes are mostly for the people who didn't set up the extra complex TV system who live with you. Touchscreens don't make great remotes in general, have to look at them, can't feel, plus battery life sucks
