Thought I'd start an informal thread about video editing. I seem to have been doing more recently. I'm also editing together a 'podcast' with a group of schools and I maybe use things that aren't strictly normal. So I use iMovie for my normal editing stuff, but I'm just about to put together a bit of an into in Powerpoint. Anyone use that for making little clips of animations and stuff?

 

I'm not great at the editing part yet, but with help from local colleagues I'm getting better. I visited another tech in another school and he showed me how he does it and working together really does help get ideas flowing!

 

What do you film? How do you edit? What software do you use?

I do a lot of video editing here, I started using windows movie maker initially when I was first asked to do it but now I use Adobe Premier and it gives a much more professional look to the videos, I've also used Blender to create 3D intros following Youtube tutorials, never thought of using Powerpoint for basic animations though, I'll have to give that a go.

 

I film and edit stuff for most events we do, but the big ones are Year 6 Leavers video (need to start that soon) e-safety day and I'll do a lot of the background visuals for the Year 6 end of year production.

 

I enjoy video editing more than anything else in my job so the more I can do the better, just need an apretice to handle the day to day techie issues while I'm doing it.

I quite enjoy making awful footage watchable too. The kids went to a singing thing and the person recording did it in portrait mode and it was all over the place! I cropped the video and put some stablisation on there and it is just about watchable!

Premier is really good for doing stuff like that, you can move things about all over the screen pretty easily.

 

Most of the footage I get is really bad because the Teachers and TA's film it, we do a lot of green screen filming and no matter how many times I tell them the camera needs to remain still for stuff like that it's always all over the place, it's a right challenge getting something usable out of that.

I use powerpoint for animated titles etc.

I used to do basic editing in movie maker and more advanced editing with Adobe Premier Elements but since I moved to Windows 10 I use Shotcut most of the time.
