hiphopamus Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Is anyone else getting socket connection errors on their SOLUS 3 agents with the new version? Seems to be happening a lot.
mrwoberts Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Yep. Had that yesterday, but only on a specific machine. Odd! A quick uninstall/reinstall fixed the problem.

mrwoberts Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Hmm, I'll have to keep an eye on that then. It was the head's PC. She hasn't said anything yet, but Fridays are full of meetings so she may not have noticed if the little blue man had turned purple.
bobsmith Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 ... may not have noticed if the little blue man had turned purple. Is she strangling him??
mrwoberts Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Is she strangling him?? I think she wanted to - the Solus agent kept popping up on her desktop.
hiphopamus Posted March 24, 2017 Author Posted March 24, 2017 Looks like we are back to using SOLUS 3 like SOLUS 2 for now then..
mrwoberts Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Looks like we are back to using SOLUS 3 like SOLUS 2 for now then.. I've been mulling over that point for some time - the idea of using the central store for setups, then a script to download/deploy SIMS with my specific requirements. Thing is, there seems to be loads of folks who never have a problem with their Solus 3 DS; me thinks their whole setup is more reliable than mine.
hiphopamus Posted March 24, 2017 Author Posted March 24, 2017 Well we support around 400 schools and we see issues with SOLUS 3 at a decent chunk of them, was hoping (maybe naively) that the new version was going to be more stable.
mrwoberts Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Ouch! Makes my handful of schools seem more bearable Any ideas of a way forward... A GPO scheduled task for downloading, deploying?
hiphopamus Posted March 24, 2017 Author Posted March 24, 2017 Ouch! Makes my handful of schools seem more bearable Any ideas of a way forward... A GPO scheduled task for downloading, deploying? I have a call logged with Capita so I will see what they suggest first and go from there.
hiphopamus Posted May 31, 2017 Author Posted May 31, 2017 No, not on this issue, it seems to get a little better if you extend the agent hearbeat.
Knil92 Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 You know, we recently took over some schools and their previous support had their solus set up for just the server, so it would update sims and the database on the server, then when people opened up sims, the simsload.exe would pull through the update from the setups folder. I think this way would be alot better than trying to deploy the solus agent to workstations and coming across problems like this. But at this point in time, I feel like I've invested too much time in trying to get the solus 3 working properly to have it set up like that now XD
vyperz Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 (edited) I reported this to capita and all they could come up with was something is being blocked by the firewall sometimes it updates ok, most of the time it fails and you have to copy the SimsApplicationSetup.exe locally and run it to update. Oddly, Capita seemed to think this was something new... funny it has obviously been reported by others.. Edited June 22, 2021 by vyperz

You have picked a 4 year old thread though... in all fairness it probably is more likely an issue on your end if you're having that many as it's been pretty rock solid in the last few years What firewall rules do you have deployed for solus?
