Just had my renewal for Symantec - £1500+vat for 475 desktop PCs for one year. In 2013 I paid £1900 for 3 years. I know the pound has sunk 20%, etc but this is a ridiculous increase. Is it just like insurance costs - which just go up anuualy hoping that customers don't notice or lack the motivation to change?

Can't even remember the last time it picked up on any Virus at all. (Yes, I know its all malware and ransom ware now). Wouldn't want to be without such protection of course.

Anyone using Sophos? Or Trend? Anything else that is good that I should be looking at? Needs to cover servers too.

(I seem to pay much the same for Symantec Mail security on top - can't help think I should get a heavy discount when I use both)

https://www.phoenixs.co.uk/swgfl-sophos/ 3.45 Per computer for a 3year License

I am not part of Swgfl, but those costs are interesting... more so if that is the entire cost for the whole 3 years! As that was what we were quoted for 1 year (3 years ago, renewal due soon).

I was recently lead to believe that licensing (costs) are changing in respect of Sophos AV protection on Servers (where currently they are treated like any other device / workstation) but this may be in relation to using Sophos Cloud (instead of a local SEC server / configuration)

This Sophos price seems to cover Antivirus AND (Exchange) Spam AND a webfilter!

Have put RM on notice that I will not be renewing at the current prices.

And if other RM schools have any sense they won't be renewing at those prices either....and I can't imagine customers returning once they have left.

If you have OVS-EES with a desktop pack, you have access to Endpoint protection from Microsoft, if that helps any? If you have System Centre, then you also have a console for it, but it can be deployed standalone and controlled via GPO .We ditched Symantec and got it(the Microsoft Endpoint Protection, that is) bundled in with our MS agreement, massive savings abound :) Edited by CAWJames
