So we are right in the basic basics of experimenting with Windows 10. Only just installed it on one machine so please bear with!

 

Does anyone know about this? I can't ping the machine, but it can ping mine. It's picked up a group policy of software and has installed it. It allows me to log on, yet it says this?

 

I'm just now trying to sort out the proxy settings but ours are set by user and they appear to be set fine already using the current policy?

Never seen that one... when does that appear? Also, who is your ISP?

I've seen this before but only ever with Wireless networks. There is a 802.1x section in Group Policy for wired networks possibly a restriction added in there? From memory it's somewhere like Computer settings > Windows settings > security settings > 802.3

Time to investigate what all your current group policies are doing and maybe create a new set of policies for Windows 10 rather than hope those for previous versions of windows will work fine, WMI filtering is your friend...

@DJ-1701 - it appears in the network box in the task bar - if you click on the network icon, it displays the domain name and 'action needed'. It doesn't seem to be internet related as , all of this said, the internet does actually work. But I can't work on our network - I can't activate Windows or access shared drives etc.

 

Turning off the firewall allowed me to ping into the machine, so there must be a exception policy I'm missing there.

@Kiest26 that sounds interesting - do you have any more info on that please? Thanks.

@kennysarmy - I've made a new OU in active directory now, away from any other policies (except default domain policy) and also a new user away from any other use policies. Creating new policies and applying them where necessary but still having this error. Just can't seem to fathom it at all.

look carefully at your default domain policy. Open up all the settings and see if anything jumps out at you.

 

Also in an elevated command prompt run gpresult /v and it will show you what policies are being applied from the network.

 

What version of Windows 10 is it?

Although the symbol used seems to suggest a physical network connection, I am going to ask a silly question... it's not connecting to an unsecured WiFi at the same time is it?

 

If so it might be worth checking if there is some setting to automatically access unsecured WiFi connections.

Might be the setting that stops credential storage.

No the wifi is turned off on the machine.

It's just odd. It seems to be on the network for all intents and purposes. I've sorted the firewall so I can ping it now and remotely connect. I can access shared drives from it. The internet is fine. The only thing is the Windows activation won't run and this message. I think they might be connected.
