Hi All,

We appear to be having an issue with Microsoft Office 2013 and 2016, it's taking ages to open for a couple of users.

We have Smart Ink installed, as well as smart notebook, it just seems to stick on opening any Microsoft Office application. Latest updates have been done, it's not all machines though which is what I'm finding odd.

Any chance of some pointers, it's starting to affect Teaching and Learning.

Thanks,

Dan

We have the same problem with excel. It won't open any files. The only way I can temporarily fix is by killing off excel via the task manager and reopen the file.

Had the same issue with one teacher using both Excel and Word 2013. Did a repair in Programmes and Features and then an update. So far no further reports of the issue.

Hello,

Please can you let me know which update you installed?

I'm having issues at one of my sites, but it's all across the trust with Office 2013/16, it's driving me mad!!

Thanks,

Dan

We had something like this a few years ago and you have to work out what update caused it and then uninstall it from all your computers.

What we had to do was find a machine (or replicate the issue on a spare/test PC) and then uninstall one update at a time until the problem goes away (making sure to make a note of the KB number of each update we uninstalled) once you know which update caused the issue, uninstall it on another PC with the issue to confirm its just the one update (it could be two updates together that cause the issue).

ive had it where the smart ink plugin makes it so the user cant type anything in word they just get a generic error noise when they type. Ive just started using gpp to disable the smart ink plugin its more hassle than its worth (its somewhere in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins smart ink (or something similar) change load behaviour to 2 or 3 (i cant remember which but one basically removes the tick so it dosent load by default)

Hi,

The problem we have is, staff use Microsoft PowerPoint, and Word, to write on using the SmartBoards, they annotate the students work. If it was disabled, would this then cause issues for Word and PowerPoint, in that they couldn't write on the board?

Thanks,

Managed to get it sorted, sort of... removed Smart Ink, from the machines and that's sorted it. Although staff now can't annotate on PPT, which some aren't happy about. We're using Smart Notebook 11, with Smart Ink. Anyone know where I can get hold of the USB drivers for the board?

Ahh, interesting, I don't suppose by any chance you know the KB number(s) you uninstalled do you?

Thanks,

Dan

No, this was several years ago and shortly afterwards Microsoft removed them from Windows Updates so they were literally only available for a few days after they were released so if this issue has only just happened after recent updates then it wont be the same ones we have.

How many updates have been installed recently on the affected computers? Sort them by date in Programs and Features and see.

We had issues similar to this a few years back and I am sure we upgraded to Smart 11.4 and Smart ink 2.2 to solve it. Haven't upgraded to Office 2016 yet so don't know if it will reappear.
