Oracle VM and traceroute

Hi,

we have some students doing coursework within an Oracle VM running ubuntu ( on a windows desktop).

 

As part of their coursework they need to run a traceroute from the ubuntu command line and analyse the results. After some initial issues with our school networking /firewalls etc. we can get traceroute running with meaningful results from a windows command line but not within the ubuntu/Oracle VM. The traceroute runs but returns just one hop and doesn't "go" anywhere.

 

Any ideas on what we need to do to get this working properly greatly appreciated.
