One of our teachers has been on some iPad training and has returned enthused about an app called "Classroom".

She says it allows the teacher to control the iPads and asks can I set it up here!

I've found some articles on the app:

https://help.apple.com/classroom/ipad/1.1.1/#/cad6d39b9338 this one gives an overview.

Currently we only have 8 iPads for pupil use as a trial, they are handed out by the teacher and shared amongst many students, they are managed and locked down via the Lightspeed MDM and they don't require any student logon, other than to authenticate with our Smoothwall device for internet filtering.

Is "Classroom" something we can use as it looks like it's more for 1 to 1 deployments or at least for students with their own managed ID's.

Anyone offer any advice?

Cheers

Apple Classroom requires no Apple ID and works with both non and shared iPad

If you only have 8 of them then surely it could be easy to get them into Classroom, each iPad could be given a specific name?

I've heard they are also releasing the ability to create ad-hoc classrooms. So teachers can create their own classroom on the go. I believe this is going to be in 10.3.

Yes and that is what is required for using classroom with shared iPad..? The next column are requirements for 1:1 but you don't have 1:1 iPads so as I said you would use generic names for each of them.

Sorry maybe it's me being thick but there are two columns : one for devices which are shared and one for devices which are 1 to 1 deployment, from the screenshot I read down the shared iPad requirements (circled in red) and read down, opposite Managed Apple ID's it states YES (Circled in red).

My students don't have individual Apple ID's.

Or are you suggesting I just create 8 generic Apple ID's?
