We host our website with Greenhouse school websites, and their Ofsted early warning system was bang on the money. Worth speaking to them getting it enabled if any of you use them.

 

I had an alert of potential "Ofsted activity", alerted the Head and then two hours later we had the call.

We use them too, thanks for the tip. I need to get in touch with them about updating a certain section so I'll ask them about it. Does it use one of their in-built features?

Not 100% sure what metric they're using to determine whether to trigger the alert or not. Probably detecting a pattern among pages visited and documents downloaded. You can find a bit more from their FAQ page

Is 2 hours extra notice worth having??

 

I would have thought that if you are not already all set up then you would need several days or weeks rather than a few hours

 

I do remember my first experience of an inspection. I was warned about it at my job interview in May/June - and it was scheduled for just before the next Easter!!!

The Head was a Drama teacher (and a Nun!!!) and basically set up a full on Drama event for a week for the benefit of the inspectors

 

Not sure how much they were fooled - the inspection went well but I think the school deserved the rating anyway

but that much notice was just plain silly!

Our Headteacher and SLT appreciated the heads up, especially on this day where our Head was absent so our Deputy was more prepared to take the call.

 

We were long overdue our Ofsted, so we knew it was just around the corner and had everything ready as far as I'm aware. All went well thankfully! Especially since the inspection landed on the day of our MIS migration to Arbor.

The main thing that people are missing is the idea is to make fun of the fact that schools are supposed to have 100 policies that about 0 people ever read, the fact that it works at all shows the policies are completely pointless

I do understand where you are coming from, but it is amazing how important those policies become when things go wrong or accusations come the way of a school.

@Dos_Box @ZeroHour . Out of interest, where does "the forum" stand on having articles pull bits from the forum. I'm still bitter about my contact at schools week ghosting me about an article on "devaluing of IT jobs" but finding it ok to use the forum for source material. Something ironic there...

We are debating things now given the new attention. There are changes coming that will help with certain aspects of this as it has been on my radar before.

I do understand where you are coming from, but it is amazing how important those policies become when things go wrong or accusations come the way of a school.

 

It's important to have policies that are actually readable, not 400 pages of them, if your policy for something is more than a page long, it's probably full of waffle, unnecessarily complex language, and things that don't actually apply to anyone. If no one has read all the policies, what's the point of them, they're just like the Terms and Conditions you don't read.

My first inspection was at an all girl's school

 

Every Department had to have a sex (probably gender really) equality policy because you are supposed to

 

I was a department of one - for ICT teaching and IT support

 

some departments paid loads of money to get pre-written policies but I did my own as every one I looked at needed more work to personalise it than writing it from scratch would take

 

anyway - my gender equality policy read as follows

 

"All girls in my class are treated equally in all ways, irrespective of gender."

 

One line only

 

The DH had the job of reviewing all the policies before the inspectors arrived - it was the days when you got nearly a year's notice

I think he was loosing the will to live when reading some of them!

 

My department was singled out for attention in the inspection as it didn;t even exists in the rpevious one - hence I had a dedicated inspector

 

he said he loved the gender policy!

Once had a policy get to governor level before anyone had noticed I’d forbidden country and western on Thursday afternoon.

 

They agreed but just queried why Thursday afternoons….

 

Just demonstrates how pointless they are.

I amended a IT policy once to change the password policy to 16+ chars no complexity and no forced password resets. At the governors meeting following their approved of the the policy the governors all complained that their passwords where too long.

 

When I asked why they had approved the policy I was told that they had not read it:eek:

Just been trying to setup a Google Analytics alert for 10+ page visits to our policy page. I can't find anywhere that allows an alert for a specific page. In Insights, I can do it to cover the whole site in general, but it will not give me any options to pick one page.

I can monitor one page in the reports, but this does not allow any alerts that I can see.

Any ideas?

Different or additional tracking code for just that page? So it's like a single page website to Google Analytics?

Customise>Custom Alerts, create an alert to email you when certain goals have gone over a threshold.

 

I have a goal that if someone goes from the homepage to my subpage, and then to a final page, I get an email
