Azure backup

IS anyone here using azure backup to backup their windows servers?

 

if so as far as i can tell in its base form it does file and folder backup to azure at specified intervals but can it be set to do a "normal" backup (so something in a disaster i could restore like windows server backup though id hate to even try a restore from cloud)

 

i have other questions and thought rather than spend all day trying to read ms websites shich arnt always clear might be a lot simpler to ask lol

Hi there,

 

You can use Azure Backup for full backup if you use D2D2C so you essentially have a staging server that then backs up into Azure. In our testing we found that you can restore a 20GB DC from Azure to site in about 4 mins (broadband dependant of course) but still pretty quick!

It works on a Normal > Incremental basis, then Incremental indefinitely in line with your retention policy.

 

Performing Normal backups indefinitely doesn't make sense and will eat up your data in no time (even if it were possible).

i assumed it was incremental it was more does it backup system state etc so i could use it for a "bare metal" rebuild as all the documentation i could find seemes to show it was basically a file copy rather than a "backup" as such

I must admit I haven't explored backing up whole servers. Backing up Hyper-V instances should be fairly straight forward, however backing up a physical instance - not sure how that would work.

Tried at home a few years back, just a glorified NT Backup and very buggy, Put off by stupid windows errors going by previous experience I wouldn't bother. What about DPM, does that offer Azure backup.
