Hyper-v: How do you create a CSV on a GPT disk for <2TB?

I want to add a new LUN that is over 2TB to hold my file server I was expanding this and I got to the error message in disk part that it was over 2TB. I have tried adding my GPT disk on Windows server 2012 and Fail-over cluster manager says that there is not a valid partition on the disk.

 

I don't really want to have my VM disks on different LUN's as that adds complexity to the setup.

If its gen2 and gpt on server 2012 or later that shouldn't be an issue. What is your setup? (i think)

It a 2012 failover cluster. I just checked and I had created it as REFS I re-created it as NTFS it and it did not give an error. It is now listed in disk part as a GPT disk so I should be able to go to go over 2TB. I got to do a storage migration of the file server and add an HDD.

 

If it not a gen two machine I am ok in having multiple virtual disks that add up to the over 2TB?

If it's not a gen2 machine you can't have the boot device being over 2tb - I think if they're on their own controller the 64tb (vhdx) limit applies Edited February 9, 2017 by Sagima
