Stormborn15 Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Hi, I'm in the process of working through switches and putting them to static.Today however, I seem to have lost the ability to ping and access a HP switch via web browser. I reserved the IP address and on DHCP it is showing as having that IP address ( matching the description I gave it) but no access. Would really appreciate any advice on how to locate the switch and / or re gain web access... TIA

Hi @Rob_D - I believe I do know which switch it is - quite high up in a small cab with next to no access to the back of it :-/.. Would a reboot of the switch be a good idea?...

If it's working (as in processing network traffic) then I'd be a little worried that power cycling it would leave it with even more borked settings. Balance of probability, it shouldn't hurt to try. But, I wouldn't want to advise you to reboot it incase it does implode or something. 1

Stormborn15 Posted February 1, 2017 Author Posted February 1, 2017 Really frustrating this one [emoji21].. did a network scan using Fing and nothing .. wondering now if the switch has changed subnet mask somehow.. we are on 255.255.240.0 ... strange things happening on network so really need to find the ip of this make sure it's ok..

You can still make a reservation in DHCP as it may be a good way to record any static assignments. If these are managed switches I'd also be looking at setting up SSH instead of telnet which is simple procedure, we never use the GUI's for switches here and have over 400 edge switches, everything is done by the CLI :-) much quicker. Additionally to the access restricted to certain IP's it is also poss to disable http access altogether but you should still be able to ping. Have you got different subnets or are you on same subnet as switch. If you are on different subnets you will nee to set the default gateway of the switch. Edited February 2, 2017 by Davit2005
