[sims] SIMS and Outlook date issues

I have a strange issue that I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light on.

 

A user has reported that her SIMS timetable is showing data from a year ago. She also receives SIMS messages that are very old. Her Outlook inbox displays messages labelled with today's date, but the messages are actually old ones that have reappeared. She receives Outlook calendar reminders from several months ago too (but with these, the date of the appointments are correct, just old).

 

I phoned Capita but made the mistake of mentioning the Outlook issue, so they've refused to help. Fair enough, I suppose.

 

Any ideas?

Do the issues follow the user to other computers?

Yes, they do. All other users are unaffected.

What academic year is the person using in SIMS? Look next to the search box on the SIMS homepage - is it 2016/17 or 2015/16?

 

I suppose what I'm saying is "you've stood behing them and observed this yourself to ensure they haven't got their inbox in reverse order, etc...?".

 

Does the person have a habit of acknowledging and dismissing past reminders (to clear them permanently) or just close it, so they pop up again?

I hadn't checked the academic year in SIMS. Seems feasible. Reversing the date view in Outlook wouldn't explain the old reminders, and this user has been around long enough for the problem with the calendar reminders to have occurred before if she was in the habit of just closing them. Still, you've given me some food for thought. I'm probably looking for a link that doesn't exist, so I'll go and have another look!

Have you checked regional settings and display settings for the user to make sure they are UK not US.

Just to update this, the SIMS academic year was indeed incorrectly set (thanks Pete). The Outlook issues are still apparently happening, but I'm not really getting enough from the user to work with.

I've always found that if you want to solve this kind of problem you need to log in as them and see it for yourself.

 

Of course 95% of the time you then find it's an operator issue.....

So true. Or, as happened here, there is no evidence of any problem, just the insistence that it is still happening!
